Cerec Crown Post Op Instructions

Cerec® Crown After Care Instructions

How to care for your new CEREC crown.

WHAT IS IT?

A Cerec® crown is a tooth-shaped ceramic cap that’s custom made in a dentist’s office using computer aided design and manufacturing. The procedure allows your dentist to design and create, and install in a single appointment.

SYMPTOMS TO EXPECT & PRECAUTIONS TO TAKE

  • There will be some numbness in the treated area that may last for several hours post treatment. To avoid damage to your tongue and lips, you should avoid any chewing and hot liquid until the numbness has completely worn off.
  • Hot and cold sensitivity may occur for a few weeks and occasionally may last for several months. Please take Tylenol or Ibuprofen when you get home and before bedtime.
  • If your bite does not feel comfortable, please call and make an appointment so that we may adjust it.
  • Small pieces of excess bonding material may be found by your tongue for a couple of days. These small pieces of excess bonding material will normally come off with regular tooth brushing. If you feel anything sharp to your tongue, please call our office.
  • Cement must harden to provide optimum strength of the crown.
  • DO NOT eat excessively sticky or chewy foods because they can loosen or remove restorations.
  • DO NOT chew hard or crunchy foods such as ice or other hard objects, for 24 hours from the time it was cemented as these may crack your dental restorations (or even your natural teeth!).
  • It may take a few days to get used to your new crown after the final cementation.

Proper brushing, flossing, and regular 6-month cleanings are necessary to maintain your final restoration. The one area where a crowned tooth can decay is at the bottom edge of the crown at the gum line. Small problems that develop around restorations can usually be found at an early stage and easily corrected, but postponing proper care can result in the need to replace the entire restoration.
